Blue Letter Day

I must manage my time better!!! It just gets away from me, and flies by.  Which is my much belabored segue to today’s image…

On the same day, this image was both published on 1x, and took the blue ribbon at DPC.  I’m very, very happy!

I love creating levitation images, even though they’re a lot of work to both shoot AND to edit convincingly.  I first learned the technique from the extraordinary Brooke Shaden. The fact that she’s her own model in many of her images just adds to my admiration of this petite dynamo, as it’s SO much easier (and faster) to shoot with someone else doing all the gyrations and contortions.

I find that a little levitation goes a long way, so I try to use it sparingly, and make any image with it be about more than just someone floating or flying.  There has to be a reason behind why someone is defying gravity.  For this image, I wanted to portray the concept of mental imbalance, and not just someone getting sucked out a window.
